New Haven Promise 2020 Internship

The 2020 New Haven Promise Internship season concluded in August with a virtual end of summer celebration. The online event brought together managers and interns to share their thoughts and experiences.

New Haven Promise internships were dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and New Haven Hiring Initiative asked departments to think outside of the box and create remote internships. As a result of the outreach, 13 Yale departments hired 33 New Haven Promise Scholars into virtual assignments, which allowed the Scholars to gain valuable work experience during an unprecedented time.

During the summer, the New Haven Promise interns participated in professional development workshops like “Time Management” and “Resume & Cover Letter Writing.” Many interns also worked on special projects within their departments.

Overall the 2020 virtual internships were an excellent experience for both managers and students.

“It has been terrific to work with Jennifer this summer. Her work had been outstanding, and her commitment to all aspects of this internship has been undeniably exceptional. I have enjoyed every time we interacted to advance our projects“, said Jenifer’s supervisor Miriam Olivares, GIS Librarian.

Congratulations to the 2020 “Quarinterns,” a phrase coined by Yale HR intern Jayden Valderrama. We are very proud of their accomplishments and the resourcefulness displayed over the summer. We hope that their experience was valuable and will support their future career endeavors.
