Yale Public Safety Officers continue giving back to the community

June 30, 2022

This spring members of the Yale Police Department have been busy coordinating or participating in several community events. These included two Mother’s Day outreach events, an event at The Nest at Alphabet Academy, and more.

In early June, several members of the Yale Police Department (YPD) took part in an event at The Nest at Alphabet Academy (The Nest) in New Haven.  Partnering with the New Haven Fire Department (NHFD), the youngsters at The Nest, many between the ages of two to five, got to climb in and around a large fire truck and several police SUVs. The children and the teachers got to interact with the firefighters and police officers. Special thanks to Lieutenant Jay Jones, YPD Officers Greg Swiantek and Roberto Arango and NHFD Battalion Chief Ryan Divito.

Members of the YPD collected over 100 stuffed animals as part of an event with iHeartRadio. The stuffed animals along with other donations collected by police departments from across Connecticut will be sent to Uvalde, Texas.

Since January, members of the YPD continue to support the Community Baptist Church’s monthly food giveaway. Special thanks this past month to Officer Becky Fowler for her assistance.

The Yale Police Department teamed up with several other Yale and local groups for the 6th Annual Mother’s Day Outreach Drive. Together they filled and distributed 325 bags with toiletries and cosmetics to mothers at Life Haven, The Apt Foundation, and The Kinship Program.

Sergeant Martha Cedeno-Ross partnered with Women of the Village food pantry and several Yale students for Eli Days. Together they planted flowers and more on Grove Street and assisted in putting together over 60 bags of toiletries and other goods provided to local mothers in need in honor of Mother’s Day.
