Sharon McLaurin new Director Security for Yale Public Safety

We are pleased to welcome Sharon McLaurin as the new Director of Security.

Reporting to Duane Lovello, Sharon will be responsible for the administration of security operations and fostering and maintaining organizational growth and development, keeping Yale Security at the forefront of best practices and responsiveness to the Yale community. She will also have responsibility for the Yale Security team’s accreditation, recruiting, and training functions.

Sharon’s extensive background includes more than 20 years of experience in the Public Safety field. She joins us from Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she served as the Director of Public Safety and carried responsibility for the annual Clery report. She worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a police officer, was a supervisor of Public Safety for Wesleyan University, and retired at the rank of captain with 20 years of service from the Connecticut Department of Corrections.

Sharon earned her bachelor’s degree in public safety administration and criminal justice from Charter Oak State College and a Master of Legal Studies with a concentration in employment law from Arizona State University. She is working on a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice specializing in Homeland Security from Liberty University.

In her personal time, Sharon was a licensed therapeutic foster parent for at-risk youth for 12 years.
