Flexible Work Arrangements

Yale recognizes that flexible work arrangements (FWA) offer creative approaches to meeting the university’s operational needs while promoting balance between work and personal life for its staff. Depending on the needs of the department, flexible work arrangements may be a beneficial alternative to a traditional work schedule. Staff may experience improved morale, attendance, and productivity while departments may have the opportunity to expand their customer service hours and reduce costs. With flexible work arrangements, Yale staff members are better able to schedule work around their personal obligations and responsibilities. This can lead to an increased sense of personal control and greater workplace satisfaction. The opportunity to vary commuting schedules to avoid rush-hour traffic or to eliminate the daily commute can alleviate stress for staff. It can also help reduce the cost of  driving to and from work. The local New Haven community benefits when there are less people driving to campus, which supports Yale’s commitment to sustainability.
