Welcome from Acting Assistant Chief John Healy
It is an honor to work alongside the sworn officers of the nation’s oldest campus police department in a city that feels like home. Having served the Yale University and New Haven communities for more than two decades, I bring both campus and community policing experience to this role and look forward to leading the Yale University Police Department (YPD) during this important period of transition.
The YPD’s commitment to your safety remains our highest priority. Our sworn officers and professional staff bring a depth of experience, training, and dedication that reflects their unwavering support for the Yale and New Haven communities we serve.
Safety is a shared responsibility, and we continue to strengthen our collaborative public safety model alongside our security, systems, and emergency management colleagues. Our partnerships with the New Haven Police Department, neighboring law enforcement agencies, the Connecticut State Police, and our federal law enforcement partners are essential to maintaining a safe campus and surrounding community. Those relationships remain strong and effective.
Our department is guided by the core values of integrity, trust, commitment, and courage. We are dedicated to open, transparent communication and to fostering positive relationships across our diverse campus. We welcome your feedback and encourage you to review our on- and off-campus safety resources, download the LiveSafe app, and explore its available features. Additionally, our Active Assailant Response video provides important guidance on how to respond in an emergency. YPD officers are proud to provide professional, around-the-clock service in support of a safe and secure living, learning, and working environment.
Sincerely,
John Healy, Yale Acting Assistant Chief of Police
