As a service to the Yale community, students, staff, and faculty can register their personal bicycles.

Register your bicycle! There is no charge for bicycle registration and the details you provide will be shared with the Yale Police Department. If you believe your bike has been stolen, contact the Yale Police Department at 203-432-4400.

Collect information about your bicycle such as a:

  • serial number
  • manufacturer
  • model
  • other distinguishing features
  • photo

Locate Your Bike’s Serial Number

The diagram below shows the five most common serial number locations.

Most bicycle serial numbers are located under the bottom bracket where the two pedal cranks come together (1). Simply turn your bike upside down and record the number. Check for the serial number on the headset at the front of the bike (2) or the rear stays (3). 

Can’t find anything? Describe the bike the best you can when registering and provide a picture to prove ownership.

The best chance at recovering a stolen bicycle is having a registered serial number. Register your bike today.
