Regulations

Yale reserves the right to temporarily suspend or reassign parking privileges as necessary. By applying for a permit, individuals agree to comply with all Yale parking rules and regulations.

Yale is not responsible for any injury, theft, or damage to vehicles or their contents while on university property.

Yale community members who are not enrolled in campus parking are strongly advised against parking on neighboring residential streets. Violations will result in tickets, towing, and/or immobilization. Contact the Yale Parking Office immediately if you receive a violation.

Application for Permit Parking

To apply for parking, complete a parking application form found on the Forms page.

Eligible Yale employees may use pre-tax payroll deductions to pay for parking.

Each permit may list up to three family vehicles; however, only one vehicle may be parked on campus during work hours. Violations may result in the loss of parking privileges.

Transferring, sharing, or selling permits is strictly prohibited and may result in the revocation of all associated permits and parking privileges.

Parking access is reserved for registered parkers only. Any unauthorized use of access to allow unpermitted vehicles into gated lots or garages is strictly prohibited and may result in the cancellation of all associated permits and parking privileges.

Suspension & Cancellation of Parking

Suspensions range from 1 to 6 months. For periods longer than 6 months, parking must be canceled. Only one suspension is allowed per fiscal year (ending June 30). A suspension form must be submitted for payroll deductions to stop. Suspensions cannot be applied retroactively. To cancel parking and stop the associated payroll deduction fees, permit holders must fill out a cancellation form and return all permits and keycards (if applicable) to the Parking Office. Cancellations cannot be applied retroactively.

No refunds will be issued to individuals who fail to suspend or cancel parking during an approved leave.

Parking Enforcement

Parking permits must be clearly displayed on all vehicles. Vehicles without a properly displayed permit may be subject to ticketing, towing, and/or immobilization without notice.

Vehicles parked in unauthorized areas—including but not limited to fire lanes, walkways, driveways, delivery zones, or within 10 feet of a fire hydrant—may be booted or towed without warning. Blocking traffic, emergency vehicles, or parking in a handicap space may also result in immediate towing.

To report improperly parked vehicles, contact the Parking Office at 203-432-9790. Parking staff are available to respond on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Outside of these hours, Yale Police Department should be contacted at 203-432-4400.

Vehicles with a Barnacle device attached to the windshield must pay the associated fine before the device can be released. Please visit the Barnacle Website for additional information and help. Yale University utilizes the following tow company:

Catapano Towing
267 Kimberly Avenue, New Haven, CT 06519
Phone: (203) 624-4119

Appeals

A vehicle owner who believes their car was towed, booted, or immobilized improperly may file an appeal with the Yale Parking Office. Please fill out the appeal form and submit it via email to parking@yale.edu.
