In this role, J. Mike oversees the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of all facilities across Yale’s campus, aligning capital and stewardship investments with institutional priorities and sustainability goals.
With more than 40 years of facilities leadership experience in the United States and abroad, including Europe, Africa, Central America, and the Caribbean, J. Mike has directed complex programs across healthcare, cultural, government, and higher education sectors. Previously, he served as executive director of national facilities services for Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic region, director of the Office of Engineering, Design, and Construction at the Smithsonian Institution, and capital program lead for Northern Italy with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command.
J. Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, a master’s degree in building construction management from Purdue University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Virginia and a member of the National Academy of Construction.
