The Taste of Puerto Rico held in November was a tremendous success raising over $3300 with about 450 people attending. All of the proceeds went to World Central Kitchen Initiative; this organization has kitchens setup in dozens of rural areas across Puerto Rico that feed victims effected by Hurricane Maria. The event was a joint effort between Yale Security and Police.
Taste of Puerto Rico featured the foods of Latin America including beef and chicken empanadas, rice and gandules (pigeon peas), pork shoulder or pernil and potato puffs.
Attendees were asked to give a $5 donation, but many gave much more! Students, staff, faculty and New Haven residents stopped by to support the event and have a hot lunch. Tatas Restaurant catered the event with music provided by DJMaxx of Maximum Entertainment. There was also homemade foods cooked and donated by a team of wonderful volunteers.
Big thanks has to go to all the volunteers who helped setup the venue, cook and serve food. Extra special thanks to Yale Security’s Lisette Delgado and George Hines and Roxanne Dalton of Yale PD who did the lion’s share of organizing this event including cooking!
