Workplace of choice
September 5, 2019
The Climate, Culture, and Inclusion Task Force and ITS Staff Development are introducing two mandatory courses for all IT employees to complete that promotes a culture of respect and inclusion for all.
First, all active employees are required to complete online training on Unconscious Bias. This is a series of three 30-minute online courses. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of unconscious bias and how to facilitate conversations around how unconscious biases develop, influence perceptions and decision making, and impact institutional diversity and inclusion efforts.
In alignment with our IT Strategic Anchor of Workplace of Choice, those who supervise staff are required to attend an instructor-led course, “Creating an Environment of Mutual Respect” which emphasizes the role of managers in sustaining a workplace of choice. This course will empower work teams to identify and address inappropriate workplace behavior with a goal of building and sustaining a healthy, respectful, and productive work environment.
Supervisors of staff must complete the instructor-led training by December 31, 2019 and the online training by June 30, 2020. All active employees need to complete the online training by June 30, 2020. Moving forward, all new employees will need to complete the online training within the first 90 days of employment, and the instructor-led training within the first six months of employment (for supervisors of staff).
