New Director of Finance and Administration joins Yale Divinity School

October 30, 2019

Recently, the Yale Divinity School Dean, Gregory E. Sterling, announced the hiring of their new Director of Finance and Administration.

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that our search for a new Director of Finance and Administration has come to a successful conclusion. John Stachniewicz, a veteran administrator with extensive experience in higher education, will join us on November 25, 2019.

I am excited to have John Stachniewicz take on this administrative leadership role at YDS. John has worked in the field since 1989, beginning his career as Assistant Dean at Newbury College before serving in senior positions from 1996 to 2018 at Weston Jesuit School of Theology and Boston College. John, who has a bachelor’s degree from Vassar College and an M.A. from Tufts, most recently has been an adviser to law schools as a Senior Consultant for the Spivey Consulting Group.

John’s experience at Weston is particularly noteworthy. As Vice President and Special Assistant to the President, he helped direct the process that led to Weston becoming affiliated with Boston College. After the successful affiliation, he served as Associate Dean for Administration and Finance at Boston College’s School of Theology & Ministry (2008-2012). Then, at the request of the President, he moved to BC’s Law School and served as its Associate Dean for Administration and Finance from 2012 to 2018.

With John’s appointment, YDS has successfully completed the rebuilding of our business and finance office. As you know, Ben Bruce joined us in 2018 as Senior Financial Analyst. Earlier this fall, Jennifer Knapp came on board as Financial Assistant. Kathy Antos began yesterday as our new Associate Director for Finance and Operations. The long-term incumbent, of course, is Sherry Ford, our very able Financial Analyst.

I would like to thank two people from the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies for providing much-needed administrative help during our transition. The first is Darlene Jones, who has been at YDS on a part-time basis this semester and has provided great support. The second is Sue Wells, who has not been present on the Quad but has helped us enormously with our personnel searches and budgeting. Additional support has been provided by LaToya Sealy Cotto of the Peabody Museum, whose contributions we also appreciate.

Please join me in welcoming John Stachniewicz to the YDS community, greeting Kathy, and thanking Darlene, Sue, and LaToya.

Best wishes,

Gregory E. Sterling, The Reverend Henry L. Slack Dean,The Lillian Claus Professor of New Testament, Yale Divinity School
