Yale Police Department Turkey Drive - Make a difference

October 30, 2019

Help a family in need this Thanksgiving by contributing to or volunteering for the annual Yale Police Department (YPD) Turkey Drive. The YPD is accepting monetary donations now through November 15 to purchase turkeys and non-perishable foods. We are also seeking volunteers to pack food bags and help with home deliveries.

Where to make donations -

  • Donations can be mailed or dropped off at the Yale Police Department, 101 Ashmun Street.
  • Checks should be made out to the non-profit organization, Our New Haven, Inc.
  • Cash donations can be sent via Venmo (@OURNEWHAVENINC) or Cashapp ($OURNEWHAVENINC).

The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, November 22, at Wexler-Grant School, 55 Foote Street, New Haven, CT.
For volunteers – important dates

  • The Turkey Giveaway is Friday, November 22 at Wexler-Grant School, 55 Foote Street. Volunteers are needed starting at 2:00 p.m. for as long as they can stay.
  • Volunteers are also needed to pack food bags from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, November 20 and 21. Choose either date or both days to help.

Thanks to all those who help make a Happy Thanksgiving for those in need. For additional information, please contact Officer Martin Parker at 475-234-9079 or martin.parker@yale.edu.

Since 2016, the YPD Turkey Drive has fed over 3,500 New Haven residents. The YPD has worked with the New Haven community, including the alders, local schools, and non-profit groups to pinpoint elderly, disabled, and families that are truly in need during the holiday season. In the past, this event allowed Yale Police Officers and Yale University volunteers to deliver turkeys and full meals directly to the homes of needy New Haven residents.
Last year, the YPD gave away 223 turkeys and 90 full meals with the help of donations and volunteers from Yale and the City of New Haven. This year we want to reach even more with a goal of 300 turkeys and 150 full meals!
