25 Science Park United Way February Events

February 6, 2020

February is 25 Science Park United Way month. The United Way of Greater New Haven is your local partner for driving positive change in health, education, and financial stability. They provide assistance to social agencies in the area with low administrative overhead. As a contributor, you are able to donate to the United Way or select the benefiting organization of your choice.

We hope you can participate in the following upcoming fundraising activities.

Setback Tournament (ongoing through February)

The setback tournament, which started last month, is again proving to be a popular way individuals support the campaign. Bring your lunch and join the fun watching teams compete playing setback card games. This is a great way to get ready for the United Way Set Back Final Four tournament at the closing ceremonies held on Friday, February 28.

Savory Soup and Stews Lunch (Thursday, February 13)

The popular Savory Soup, Stew, and Chili lunch will be held on Thursday, February 13. Everyone is invited to join us in the 25 Science Park first floor lounge for a luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. This is the perfect recipe to combat the mid-winter cold, while helping to decrease the effects of poverty, and promoting early childhood development in Greater New Haven—a win/win/win! $5 donation requested at the door.

We are also looking for volunteers to make soup, stew, chili, or bread. It is not too late for chefs to come and showcase their favorite recipes. If interested, please contact cynthia.welsh@yale.edu.

Basket Raffle (week of February 24)

Now is the time to get together with your colleagues and create a themed basket for this popular yearly fundraiser. Here’s your chance to show off your creativity and help give back to the community at the same time. A prize will be awarded to the department and/or individuals with the most popular basket and most creative theme. Please contact kay.ratanasaka@yale.edu if you plan to create a basket; the deadline to submit baskets is Friday, February 21.

Baskets will be available for viewing Monday, February 24 – Friday, February 28. Prize drawings will be held during the campaign closing festivities on February 28.

25 SP United Way Closing Festivities (Friday, February 28)

This will be a fun afternoon which will bring this year’s campaign to a close. There will be various events, music, games, “pie your favorite boss,” setback tournament finals, announcement of the department basket raffle winners, and more.

We are looking for volunteers willing to get “pied” for a good cause. To volunteer, or for more information, please contact franz.hartl@yale.edu.

Thank you to all who have contributed or signed up to make a monthly donation via payroll deduction. If you haven’t yet done so, please consider making a one time or monthly donation via payroll deduction. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference, and we have the added benefit of the University matching dollars for those newly giving through payroll deduction or those increasing their contribution from last year. Make our dollars count!
