Data certification process for IT Service Catalog

April 30, 2020

As a part of continual service improvement, Service Management will create a data certification process for service offering managers to validate and populate data in the IT Service Catalog.

The goal of the IT Service Catalog is to provide a single source of consistent information on all IT services and service offerings. A service catalog should include the context for how services and offerings will be delivered and supported and setting the expectations related to service agreements and performance. To provide more of this information, and as part of the Service Classification balanced scorecard project supporting the Service Quality priority, IT Service Management has added three fields to the IT Service Catalog which will be populated during the certification. These new fields will provide data regarding the security posture of the service as well as important service level information that our catalog audience needs to understand, including:

  • Data Classification
  • Availability Requirement
  • External Obligations

Along with populating the new service classification fields, the data certification will require validation and updates to existing fields, including:

  • Assigned Service Offering Manager
  • Service Offering Description
  • VPN Requirement Indicator
  • Service Eligibility

Certification reviews for service data will be completed annually to ensure that the catalog pages are maintained and provide relevant data. This certification request will be sent to service offering managers on May 4 and scheduled for completion by the end of May.
