XLOOKUP for Excel from Microsoft

May 20, 2020

Microsoft has just added a powerful new function to Excel: XLOOKUP. Use the XLOOKUP function when you need to find things in a table or a range by row.  For example, find an employee name based on their employee ID, or the planning unit code based on the cost center.  With XLOOKUP, you can look in one column for a search term, and return a result from the same row in another column, regardless of which side the return column is on.  XLOOKUP is a significant improvement over the VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP functions.

The new function is now available to most individuals with the monthly Office 365 subscription (the Yale default).  If you still have the semi-annual subscription, XLOOKUP will be available starting in July.
