Please share this important message to individuals in your area(s) of responsibility, as needed.

300 George Street, 6th floor, is under renovation. The current telephony system will be decommissioned to allow for space expansion in that area. Approximately 547 Yale telecom lines have been identified to move to a new on-premises phone system using the latest telecommunications technology. The project is underway and is targeted for completion in September 2020.

Phones not currently using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), an internet-based service, will transition to a new Cisco VOIP platform.

What to expect

  • Affected areas currently using a multi-line Nortel/Avaya phone will transition to a new Cisco set. A link to the Cisco training guide will be provided.
  • All analog phones will migrate to the new system without having to replace the phone set.
  • All analog lines (e.g., freezer alarm phones, area of refuge phones, elevator phones, etc.) will move to the gateway with minimum impact.
  • There will be an impact on building occupants, including a telephony outage, and the requirement of a voicemail refresh. More details will be communicated before the building transitions.

Next steps

A member of the Yale ITS project team will schedule a meeting with you or your designated point of contact. During this meeting, the team will share details about the new system, verify current users, identify phone lines in common areas, and identify unique criteria for alarms, freezers, and other specialty devices.
