New Public Safety Patch

September 9, 2020

In early May, Yale Security unveiled their new patch (shown above left next to the old patch). The new patch reflects Security’s organizational affiliation within the Yale Public Safety umbrella. Yale’s standard logo is positioned at the top of the cloth patch–white against a Yale-blue background surrounded by a double border of lighter blue and grey. Harkness Tower is featured in the center.

The Tower’s 216-foot height is subtly referenced on the clock face, where the hands show the time at 2:16. Harkness Tower’s height is an interesting piece of Yale trivia. That exact height represents one foot for each year between Yale’s founding in 1701 and the Tower’s completion in 1917. Surrounding the Tower’s image in a circular design are Security’s core values of Respect, Community, Service, and Pride.

A team effort went into the design and implementation of this new patch.  This included contributions from Yale Security personnel and our uniform supplier’s staff. Together they worked through various iterations before arriving at the final design which was approved by Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police Ronnell Higgins.

Over the coming months the new patch will be added to uniforms, jackets, vests, polo shirts, and hats worn by  Yale’s Security Officers.
