Biennial Moveable Equipment Inventory begins April 15, 2021

The Biennial Moveable Equipment Inventory (MEI) begins on Thursday, April 15, 2021–with an expected completion date of Friday, July 30, 2021. Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Cost Centers will receive separate guidance from YSM Finance regarding a deliverable timeline.

Per Federal regulations and University policy, a physical inventory of Yale’s Moveable Equipment must be completed at least every two years to ensure that the university has properly maintained and accurately accounted for equipment within each unit. As discussed in the September 23, 2020 Business Update, due to COVID-19, the Department of Health and Human Services granted Yale University an exception to postpone the Biennial Moveable Equipment (MEI) inventory count originally scheduled for June 2020.

This 2021 count represents the postponed 2020 count. The slightly longer inventory period is intended to accommodate the logistical challenges associated with remote work and limited access to preserve physical distancing.

The standard inventory schedule will resume next year (FY22). Please note this means that the university will perform an inventory count two years in a row. Instructions and additional details will be provided to impacted cost centers as the start of inventory approaches.
