Cybersecurity Awareness Program: Ready, Set, Grow!

July 22, 2021

Ready to learn simple cybersecurity awareness tips to keep you safe online?

The Yale Information Security Office is pleased to launch our Cybersecurity Awareness Program! The program introduces simple, repeatable actions for our community to take. Your small actions can make a big impact for cybersecurity at Yale. Learn how to stay safe whether working from home or on campus. The program introduces four foundational cybersecurity topics:

  • Click with Caution
  • Use Secure Passwords
  • Apply Updates
  • Know Your Risk

Every 2-3 months we’ll introduce a new topic to build your knowledge and awareness. To keep it fresh, fun and engaging, we’ll share our awareness toolkits. Each toolkit contains information, activities, and games to keep you in the know.

Why is cybersecurity awareness so important?

To support its mission, Yale requires an open, distributed technology environment. Technology supports groundbreaking research and scholarship. It bolsters innovative teaching and learning. This open environment affords us greater flexibility, but also presents greater cybersecurity risk. To balance this flexibility and manage risk, it takes all of us. By working together, we have the power to make a big difference in keeping Yale safe.

Cybersecurity is an increasing concern across all industries. We see and hear about it on the news almost daily. Yale is no exception. Cybercriminals are intent on disrupting the critical work we do at the university. Our peer institutions have seen an increase in these cyber disruptions too.

Let’s get started!

You can build your cybersecurity awareness muscle in several ways:

  • Visit the Cybersecurity Awareness page to learn more about the program.
  • Review a recent message from Paul Rivers, Yale’s Chief Information Security Officer.
  • Explore the Click with Caution toolkit. Build your skills in detecting suspicious emails.
  • Register for one of our four awareness program kickoff sessions. We’ll share a brief program overview followed by an interactive, online game. If you’re ready to learn new skills and have some fun, come join us! You may even win some cool cybersecurity swag.

We look forward to learning with you and working together to keep Yale safe.
