IT welcomes remote college interns
July 22, 2021
Continuing the commitment to fostering learning and professional opportunities to college students, IT welcomed 18 interns this summer. While this year marks the 2nd summer of remote work, the dedication of our managers and the enthusiasm of the interns has not waned.
Jesmarie Hernandez, a student at UConn and New Haven Promise Scholar, is a returning intern with the Information Security team. “Despite the remote changes made in the last two years, the internship program has remained one of the things I look forward to everyday. Working from home can be difficult, but my team here has made it super easy to communicate with each other. They created a wonderful learning environment where we can feel open to ask for help. Overall, l I have learned so many technical skills being an intern whether in person or online.”
Since 2014 Yale’s ITS Summer College Internship has offered paid, full-time, 10- to 12-week positions working side-by-side with IT professionals on projects matched with a student’s skills and interests. The assignments offer hands-on experience, exposure to a collaborative culture and opportunities to sharpen problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. To date, over 100 college students have interned, building a pipeline to future hiring.
