IT Academy - Training & Events (June 2022)

June 9, 2022

Hosted by the IT Staff Development team, Yale’s IT Academy consists of a robust speaker series, recommended online training offerings, and learning events to support the professional growth and staff development of Yale’s IT community.

FY22 IT Diversity and Inclusion Training (Required for ITS staff)

Following a successful pilot with ITS leaders, managers, and staff supervisors, we are ready to offer Diversity Monologues training to all ITS staff. This training builds on the Unconscious Bias curriculum we launched in FY21, supporting our IT Competencies and the Workplace of Choice strategic anchor.

In support of the IT Workplace of Choice strategic anchor, IT FY22 Diversity and Inclusion Training assists employees to better work with others of differing abilities, backgrounds, nationalities, and genders. This emphasizes being inclusive of all employees and explains the benefits of doing so.

In this course, we will explore a diversity monologue, review the diversity leadership model, and discuss ways in which they can create a more inclusive culture for persons within the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer community. The skills learned in this course can help to establish an organization-wide culture, which can aid in cultivating healthy relationships with everyone we work with.

Access the FY22 ITS D&I training through Yale’s Training Management System (TMS). Login to Yale’s Virtual Private Network (VPN).

FY22 IT Balanced Scorecard Training (required for ITS staff)

The ITS Balanced Scorecard training (approximately 15 minutes) provides employees with an understanding of ITS strategic initiatives and highlights key areas of focus for the fiscal year. This session includes both insights from our CIO on the Balanced Scorecard as well as an in-depth review of the FY22 goals.

When it comes to technology and innovation most of us look to the present and extrapolate on what we already know in order to predict the future. This works fairly well in the short term, mostly because predictions based on what we already know tend to reinforce each other. At the same time, the future is, by its very nature, grounded in the unknown.

In order to understand what a technology is likely to become, it is important to understand what it actually is. By referencing the way that a photographer takes pictures, I would like to talk about what it means to set aside our preconceptions and try to look without seeing and to see without knowing. Sometimes the best way to arrive at a meaningful answer is to stop asking questions.
