Yale Public Safety hosts Dispatcher Education Summit at West Campus

June 30, 2022

On August 2 - 4, Yale Public Safety’s Security Division is hosting a dispatcher/telecommunicator education summit curated and taught by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA). NENA serves the greater 9-1-1 community by providing guidelines for emergency response through standards development, training, thought leadership, outreach, and advocacy. Each day of training will enhance both call taking and dispatching skills. Participants can register for individual training days or attend all three to earn NENA’s Excellence in Dispatch certification.

The three-day event will be held at Yale’s West Campus Conference Center. Registration is required and the cost is $100 per person. Individuals can take just one or all three courses and receive an Excellence in Dispatch certification. It’s perfect for anyone looking to gain knowledge, develop career-enhancing skills, and earn points towards re-certification.

“Yale Public Safety is evolving and we are always looking for training opportunities. We are assuming additional responsibilities beyond typical services involving  lockouts, walking escorts, and things like that. As part of Yale’s “fit-for-purpose” response protocols, we now respond to  intoxicated persons, noise disturbances, medical emergencies, and other non-criminal incidents, freeing up our partners at the Yale Police Department to respond to and focus on those matters requiring the police and their unique skillsets. This training better prepares Security Communications Officers for these situations, equipping them with the most up-to-date responses for these incidences,” said Kindra Graham, Security Manager, Office of Public Safety.

Kindra is coordinating the event and has invited local municipalities, colleges, and universities. Anyone interested in attending can contact her directly at Kindra.graham@yale.edu or register directly through NENA’s website.
