Some supplier surcharges begin July 1, 2022

July 6, 2022

Effective July 2022, several Yale suppliers will begin implementing surcharges on orders. The surcharges are the direct result of commodity cost increases, supply chain issues, and labor constraints that started in 2020, but remain significant challenges today.

The surcharge impacts all orders made through the following suppliers:

  • Kimball, National, Interwoven, and Etc. brand orders (excludes Poppin): 3% surcharge effective Friday, July 1, 2022, moving to a 9% surcharge effective September 21, 2022.
  • Red Thread:  2% surcharge effective Monday, July 18, 2022.

Currently, these are the only surcharges the Yale Procurement Department is aware of.   As Procurement becomes aware of any other impacts, our team will alert the community via Business Update and in the News and Announcements section of the Procurement website. Departments should continue to carefully review any quote and contact Procurement with any questions or support needs via the Purchasing Intake Portal.

The Procurement Department is working on this surcharge issue with peer institutions, including the Ivy Plus schools.
