The New Haven Hiring Initiative (NHHI) launches new Employment Readiness Program

In November, the New Haven Hiring Initiative (NHHI) launched an Employment Readiness Program (ERP) in collaboration with the Dixwell Q House (Q House). The partnership meets the needs of both organizations by creating programs to support economic development via employment readiness, providing information to candidates seeking employment, and the need for workforce development programming. The ERP offers a diverse perspective on local employment opportunities and supplies wrap-around resources to support the successful candidacy of New Haven residents.
Yale NHHI team launches Employment Readiness Program
During the launch, Fallon Thomas, NHHI Community Liaison, and Chris Brown, NHHI Director, presented to an audience of over 40 New Haven residents. They discussed the origins of the NHHI, its collaboration with the Q House, and information about future program offerings and partnerships.
From December 5, 2022, through May 15, 2023, Yale departments and external organizations will share their respective employment opportunities, qualifications needed, and how to engage in the application process. Also, workforce development organizations such as New Haven Works and Workforce Alliance will highlight their services and how to access their offerings.
The ERP will consist of one-hour workshops on the first and third Monday of each month from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Topics will include frequently filled positions, elevator pitches, resume and cover letter writing tips, successful interviewing, and workforce development offerings. The NHHI community liaison will hold office hours at the Q House twice a month where community members can engage in exploratory interviews or career planning sessions.
