Career Day at James Hillhouse High School

February 27, 2023

Earlier this month, Yale’s New Haven Hiring Initiative Community Liaison, Fallon Thomas, returned to her alma mater, James Hillhouse High School, for Career Day. Fallon engaged with over 200 students reviewing the different job opportunities at Yale, which include college-bound, trade school-bound, and high school-to-work career tracks.

Fallon provided a benefits overview of the New Haven Promise Scholarship and encouraged them to follow up with their counselors. She also handed out sample job descriptions for New Haven Promise internships at Yale, information about Yale Hospitality and the positions open to high-school students, and sample job descriptions for Yale’s Clerical & Technical and Service & Maintenance jobs.

Brittiny Johnson, Parent Liaison at James Hillhouse High School, coordinated this successful event, bringing employers, training programs, military recruiters, and entrepreneurs together to highlight career options for the students. She was overwhelmed by the community support. One student approached her, expressing her enthusiasm. “I never knew how many opportunities were open to me, whether I get a college degree or not, and it made me think about what I want to do after high school.”

A full circle moment for the Fallon and an excellent opportunity to plant seeds for the future!
