Redesigning spaces for enhanced collaboration

Space planning is a hot topic these days, and ITS decided to lead by making space changes at 25 Science Park (25SP). Planning began in the Fall of 2022 to evaluate how space is used on the 4th and 5th floors.

A space consolidation project with the goal of densifying the 4th floor with staff who come into the office three or more days a week was initiated. Initially, consideration was given to locating all hoteling seats on the 5th floor. However, to allow better team collaboration, spaces were blended into the 4th and 5th floors. Now 60% complete, here are some highlights:

  • 30 offices and 127 cubicles were vacated and cleaned.
  • 44 offices and 66 cubicles assigned (3+ days a week in the office).
  • Two hoteling offices and 18 cubicles active on April 6.
  • Hoteling reservations available through Microsoft bookings.
  • 21 cubicles on the 5th floor were removed to create collaboration spaces for staff and interns.
  • A game room is being planned.
  • An open concept gathering space with collaborative furniture to encourage staff communication and idea exchange = supporting creative teamwork is being built.

Since hoteling space requires secure storage for staff visiting 25SP, 13 combination lockers are being moved into the 5th-floor large kitchen, and 10 combination lockers are being moved into the 4th-floor large kitchen. We anticipate these lockers to be installed and operational by early May.

How do I reserve a spot?

You will be able to reserve space using Microsoft Bookings (link to be provided in the near future). All seats are booked for 8.5 hours. If reserving ahead of time, select 8:30 a.m. on your reservation date. If reserving while in the office and it is after 8:30 a.m., please select 12:30 p.m.

What equipment is available?

Each hoteling seat has two monitors, one universal docking station (for MAC and PC use), one wired keyboard, and one wired mouse. Hoteling guidelines, instructions, and PPE supplies are in each location. Please do not remove any equipment or supplies from its assigned location.

We are partnering with our AV team to bring more ZOOM/TEAMS rooms on the 5th floor and upgraded AV equipment in our new collaboration space and huddle rooms.
