New Haven Hiring Initiative wraps up employment readiness program

May 26, 2023

Earlier this month, the New Haven Hiring Initiative (NHHI) concluded its first Employment Readiness series with a presentation from Pam Walsh, Coordinator of the Gateway Community College Continuing Education Program. In collaboration with Dixwell Q House, attendees received information about Gateway’s non-credit courses that support workforce and economic development.

The NHHI Employment Readiness program consisted of 13 sessions inclusive of Yale departments and external organizations that shared their respective employment opportunities, qualifications needed, and how to engage in the application process. Workforce development organizations such as New Haven Works and Workforce Alliance highlighted their services and how to access their offerings. Approximately 200 participants took part in this six-month series. The program was featured in the Yale Daily News and New Haven Independent.

To culminate the Employment Readiness Program, the NHHI will host a table at the 11th Annual Free Market & Health Fair on Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The table will include information about the NHHI and New Haven Works and will offer free “Dress for Success” clothing.
