Team spotlight - Financial Planning & Analysis

June 30, 2023

We recently caught up with Jennifer Franssen of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to learn what her team has been up to and what is on the horizon for them.

Q. What is the primary focus of your team’s work?

FP&A is a team of 17 that provides accurate, timely, high-quality financial analysis and advice to decision-makers at Yale and business operations support to three planning units. FP&A supports the major annual financial cycles: long-range planning, Q2 forecasting, the annual capital and operating budget, and year-end.

Q. What are some of the team’s most recent accomplishments?

It is an accomplishment every time we complete one of these major financial cycles. The end products result from hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of work performed by our team, our central Finance colleagues, and our business operations community partners.

Q. What upcoming projects does your team currently have in the pipeline?

In addition to the annual financial cycles, our team will support the Local 33 contract negotiations and perform stress case financial scenarios modeling the impact of various returns on the endowment distribution (representing 35% of Yale’s revenue in the FY24 budget). We also look forward to supporting the OneFinance program when the work intersects with our areas of expertise.

Q. Is there anything else you’d like to share about your team?

FP&A is a tremendous team of talented, dedicated, creative, and supportive individuals. The level of collaboration and willingness to assist colleagues within the department or out in the business operation community is very high. It’s a great team to be a part of!
