A Busy Summer for the New Haven Hiring Initiative: Summer 2024 Recap
August 29, 2024
The New Haven Hiring Initiative (NHHI) had a summer full of productivity and impact, demonstrating a strong commitment to engaging and supporting the New Haven community. Through the efforts of the Community Outreach and Engagement Manager, along with the NHHI and Diversity Programs teams, the initiative made significant strides in fostering connections and promoting opportunities within the city.
This summer, NHHI’s presence was felt across a variety of multigenerational events that brought together diverse groups of people around themes of job opportunities, health awareness, economic empowerment, and family fun. These events were a testament to the power of collaboration, as NHHI partnered with numerous community organizations to address key issues such as employment, health, and education.
A notable highlight of the summer was the distribution of over 2,000 pieces of NHHI/Yale affinity group swag and school supplies, an initiative aimed at strengthening the bond between the community and NHHI. This gesture not only provided physical support but also fostered a sense of belonging among community members.
Collaborative efforts with Yale University’s affinity groups and community partners like the 333 Valley St. (The Shack) and Elm City Communities underscored NHHI’s commitment to collective community empowerment. These partnerships amplified the initiative’s reach and impact, creating a network of support that benefits the entire community.
Current Yale employees also engaged with NHHI through multiple events, gaining valuable insights into the benefits of the Employee Referral Program and learning how to become involved in Yale’s affinity groups. These interactions helped to bridge the gap between the university and the wider community, further strengthening the community-to-jobs pipeline.
Overall, the NHHI’s active participation in a variety of events this summer highlights its dedication to providing job opportunities, promoting community collaboration, and fostering an empowering environment for all. The initiative’s work continues to build a strong foundation for a thriving, interconnected community.
