NHHI Hiring Spotlight- Madison Grady Senior Administrative Assistant

September 27, 2024

Tell us about yourself.
Hello! My name is Madison Grady, and I work at the Schwarzman Center at Yale University. I live in the Westville neighborhood of New Haven. I recently graduated from the University of Sussex with a master’s in Social Anthropology. I really enjoy working in New Haven, and outside of work I love trying new restaurants in the city, spending time outdoors, studying American Sign Language, and attending revolutionary book clubs with my friends.

Tell us about your job search experience.
New Haven works was extremely helpful in my job search. The staff were welcoming and reassuring which was nice, as we all know how frustrating and time-consuming job searching can be. The help was dynamic, and they made time to touch base with me rather than just throwing me some paperwork and leaving me on my own!

Tell us about your current roles at Yale.
I support the Executive Director of the Schwarzman Center with travel, meeting scheduling, event planning, staff outings, expenses, and more. I began as a temporary employee and am now a full-time employee. Being a temp firstly was definitely helpful in learning the role. I was able to attend a lot of meetings and see how all the departments work together.

What advice do you have for other job-seekers?
The advice I have is (though it is easier said than done) to try to be patient because finding a job is so erratic! You will hear nothing for months sometimes and somehow hear from 3 different employers in a week. Also, to ask people you trust to assist you if you need it!

What is next for you?
I recently began auditing a course, and I would like to continue to explore my learning opportunities here! I also want to volunteer at the Yale Farm more and explore the Leitner planetarium.
