Anne Funcke, Development Program Coordinator, Major Gifts

Tell us about yourself.
My name is Anne Funcke, and I work in the Office of Development at Yale University. I grew up in Germany, completed my bachelor’s degree in Ireland, and earned my master’s in the Netherlands before moving to New Haven. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, yoga, Zumba, reading, and attending the theater.

Tell us about your job search experience.
I am very grateful to New Haven Works for supporting me throughout my job search. My job coach provided detailed feedback on my resume and cover letter and helped me prepare for interviews. They connected me with the New Haven Hiring Initiative team, who suggested jobs at Yale that matched my expertise.

Tell us about your current roles at Yale.
I work in the Office of Development, within the Major Gifts department. I partner with gift officers to build philanthropic relationships with Yale alumni by writing proposals, preparing briefings, conducting research, and managing events.

What advice do you have for other jobseekers?
My advice is to believe in yourself and keep going. I know job hunting can be a long and tough journey but hang in there! You need a lot of patience while waiting to hear back from interviews, but remember that your skills are valuable, and you will find a job you love. Don’t hesitate to ask your job coach for help—they’re there to guide you and may have excellent advice.

What is next for you?
I am collaborating with the NHHI and the Office of International Students (OISS) to bring tailored job resource information sessions to the spouses and partners of international students and scholars. We successfully organized the first session in April and are planning more events.
