Yale Police officer Roberto Arango recently participated in America’s 9/11 Ride to pay tribute to those who served, protected, and lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Organized by America’s 9/11 Foundation, Inc., the commemorative ride is the largest police-escorted ride, according to its website. This year, 80 police officers from the region escorted 500 civilian riders to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the Pentagon, and the World Trade Center.

The 24th commemorative ride also raised funds to provide college scholarships to children of first responders.

Arango, a 17-year veteran of the Yale Police Department said, “I contribute to the Foundation and participate in the ride because it not only honors the lives lost in the September 11 attacks, but it helps raise money for children of first responders, and fire departments in the area.”

According to the Foundation’s website, last year’s event raised $100,000.
