This policy is proposed by the Office of Research Administration (the “policy sponsor”), with the responsible office being the Office of Sponsored Projects. Its purpose is to formalize a uniform approach to the recovery of facilities and administrative (F&A) costs relating to sponsored awards across the University.
As a newly proposed policy, Policy 6002 formalizes several existing concepts and practices relating to the recovery of F&A costs at the university. It also provides clarity and uniformity in instances where there may have previously been differing practices across units.
The policy document defines and outlines the major concepts and structures pertaining to F&A costs and their recovery, including clarifying expectations as they relate to each of the main categories of awards. It specifically identifies the various roles and responsibilities pertaining to F&A cost recovery. Certain concepts (e.g., allowing reduced rates for startups) may be relatively new to some users outside the School of Medicine.
As a newly proposed policy, there are no particular changes to highlight. Rather, the policy document itself is the best source of proposed information.
