In this role, Steve is responsible for overseeing the controller’s office, financial planning and analysis, procurement, university audit and advisory, financial systems & solutions, and finance operations. Previously, Steve served as associate vice president for finance from 2012 to 2015, associate vice president for financial planning and analysis from 2009 to 2012, and associate vice president for business operations from 2007 to 2009.

Steve joined the University in 2001 as the director of finance and administration for the office of cooperative research. Prior to working for Yale, he served in various finance and business development positions in the private sector, including finance director for Wilson Sporting Goods Europe based in Munich; director of business development for Häagen-Dazs Asia/Pacific based in Hong Kong; and as the senior financial executive at several technology companies. Steve began his career as a management consultant at Marakon Associates.

Steve serves on the board of trustees for Yale New Haven Hospital, and as a board member and treasurer for the Foote School. He is a former member of the board of trustees for St. Thomas More Chapel & Center at Yale. Mr. Murphy holds a B.A. in economics from Yale.
