Paul Rivers’ 25 years of experience in the field includes serving as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the University of California Berkeley, cybersecurity consulting for Fortune 500 companies, and management of database operations in a global financial firm. Rivers is a veteran of cybersecurity incident response, intimately familiar with the regulatory, compliance and security frameworks applicable to higher education.
In his role as CISO for Yale University, Rivers formulates information security and compliance strategy, and oversees its implementation in support of the University’s teaching, research and administrative missions. Rivers emphasizes fundamentals and collaboration to achieve a balanced approach to cyber-risk management. He also serves as the HIPAA Security Officer for the University.
Rivers has held numerous cybersecurity certifications, and currently holds the CGEIT, CIPP/US, CISA, CISM, CISSP, CRISC, HCISPP, and ITIL v3 Foundation.
