Public Safety Advisory - Hate Based Vandalism

A message from Chief Ronnell A. Higgins

Dear Members of the Yale Community,

I write to inform you of two graffiti incidents inside the construction site for Kline Biology Tower, which since construction began has been closed and inaccessible to the Yale community.

On Monday, September 20, members of the contracted construction crew noticed that anti-Semitic and racist graffiti was spray-painted inside the building, and project materials belonging to one construction company employee had been vandalized. On September 21, the Yale Police Department was notified and immediately began a criminal investigation, and the facilities team in collaboration with the construction company increased security measures, installing additional security cameras, and fortifying the perimeter fencing and access gates to the construction site.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, security cameras recorded several young adults who had scaled the perimeter fencing and broken into the Kline construction site. They vandalized indoor areas of the building and spray-painted anti-Semitic and racist language on interior surfaces.

Yale Police are actively investigating both incidents, which may be related. We ask for your help in identifying the people captured on the security cameras. You can find the images on the Yale Police website

I am disgusted and angered that these individuals have spread messages of hate and intolerance at this worksite. With President Salovey’s support
