Yale Security monitors campus safety 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our security officers patrol buildings and the campus, provide walking escorts, and offer lockout services to students, faculty, and staff. Security also responds to medical calls, alarms, and complaints of loud music/disturbances on campus. Security communication officers coordinate incoming calls for these services and manage lost-and-found issues. Yale Security collaborates with the Yale Police Department to protect the community.
Yale Security began with just three officers stationed at the School of Medicine and has since grown to approximately 140 officers and managers to address the needs of the 21st century. Our administrative office is located at 79 Howe Street.
Yale Security takes pride in being the largest unsworn, unarmed accredited security agency in the country. In 2022, the department earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), following a rigorous process that required the department to demonstrate that it meets and exceeds CALEA standards. This distinguished achievement, typically associated with sworn, armed police agencies, highlights the department’s dedication to campus safety and service.
Following CALEA standards, we invite Yale community members to use the following public portal to provide feedback on Yale Security’s compliance, community engagement, and delivery of public services.
You can submit feedback in the form of commendations or concerns. Our goal is to gather information that supports continuous improvement and fosters the pursuit of excellence.
