Research Integrity & Security Office
The Research Integrity and Security Office’s (RISO) mission is to protect the integrity and security of Yale’s research enterprise by providing support and guidance to faculty and staff engaged in research, academic, and administrative activities in alignment with the Yale Faculty Handbook, all applicable Yale policies, U.S. laws and federal regulations; and supporting Yale’s strategic goals to expand the University’s research and scholarship and support its contributions to the global community.
Research Integrity
Integrity in research, scholarship and teaching is an essential element upon which the University is founded. The Faculty Handbook, Section XX.C.1.a states: “All members of the faculty are expected to conduct their scholarly research and publish the results of that research consistent with the highest standards of ethical conduct, truth, and accuracy.”
The University takes seriously all allegations of academic misconduct that have been made in good faith. The University’s policy for dealing with allegations of academic misconduct applies to all University personnel involved with research activities (including faculty, staff, students, research associates and fellows, post-doctoral fellows, and other research trainees) and all visitors involved with research activities. Research Security
In recent years there has been increased scrutiny related to the security of science and technology produced with the support of US federal funding. The federal government has established new legal guidance and requirements, such as the National Security Presidential Memorandum - 33 (NSPM-33) and the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductor (CHIPS) Act, and various new regulations, which are designed to protect research, including fundamental research. As a leading research institution, it is vital that Yale maintain openness, while safeguarding the security of the valuable contributions we provide with the support of funding from our sponsoring agencies.
This program was created in response to these regulations. Our office is here to assist with any questions or concerns.
