Robberies in George/York/ Park Street Area

A message from Chief Ronnell A. Higgins

To the Yale Community,

I write to let you know of two incidents that occurred this evening involving an attempted robbery and a robbery of two graduate students. At 10:30 pm, a graduate student was walking near 111 Park Street when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man. He demanded money and threatened her. He fled without taking anything, east on George Street. The second incident occurred approximately three minutes later on York and George Streets. A graduate student was walking when he was approached from behind by an unknown male. As in the prior incident, the man demanded money and insinuated that he had a weapon. The man took money from the victim and fled north on York Street. No physical injuries were reported, and no weapons were displayed in either incident. The New Haven police are investigating. If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the New Haven Police at (203) 946-6316 or Yale Police at (203) 432-4400.
