Recently, 173 staff members told us how they hope to spend their time this summer. Thank you to all who took the time to answer the summer-bucket-list question (see responses below). Dini Harsono Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS Visit a sunflower field; See Toy Story 4; Clean up the attic (donate, repurpose, recycle, throw away); Spend a day at a beach; Eat lobsters by the water in Noank (we do this every year with our cousins); Help daughter complete her summer reading challenge; Create a birthday board for daughter (another annual thing); Send postcards to loved ones from places we visit; Watch Stranger Things, Big Little Lies, Veronica Mars; Finish and submit manuscripts to journals (duty calls even in the summer, can’t help it!); Go to a conference (another “duty” but look forward very much to it!)

Joanna Hu Internal Medicine I would like to go to the two national parks in Hawaii (Haleakala and Hawaii Volcanoes) as our family is trying to visit all the U.S. national parks. That is our bucket list since my recent 10-year survivorship anniversary. The two in Hawaii are the more difficult ones to visit due to logistics and cost.

Maureen Velazquez Institutional Reporting & Analytics The Yale Chamber Music Festival at the Music Shed in Norfolk, CT. We attended the Brentano String Quartet’s renditions of Wuorinen’s “Josquiniana”, Bresnick’s “The Planet on the Table”, and Ravel’s “String Quartet in F Major” on Saturday, July 13th. What a beautiful part of the state to visit! The brass ensemble’s performance during intermission was excellent as well. We look forward to returning to Norfolk to enjoy many additional musical experiences with the talented artists in residence. Gina Della Porta OSP After 12 years in NC, we just moved back to CT.  My summer bucket list includes unpacking all of our boxes and getting my family settled into our home.  And of course, hours of playing board games with the kids.
Rebecca Library My 2019 summer bucket list includes a stay at the luxurious Tourists Are Welcome hotel in Clarksburg, MA. The hotel was recently renovated and often occupied by a member of the band Wilco, which has a devout following of attendees to their Solid Sound festival hosted biennially at Mass MoCA. I would like to see the grounds before staying at the next SSF2021. Also included on the SBL is a trip floating down the Farmington river atop of tubes! Always a blast…

Life is so busy between work and obligations on the weekends, it seems we never get to enjoy even the simple things just down the road from us.
Todd Andrews Cancer Center Trip to Waterbury, VT to visit the Alchemist brewery along with some of the finest brew pubs in the country followed by a drive over to Saratoga Springs, NY to catch some horse racing and check out the famous SPA.
A day trip up to Cornwall, CT for fly fishing on the Housatonic River then a drive over to Kent Falls State Park to swim and cool off. In addition, it wouldn’t be summer without a boat trip around the Thimble Islands on the Seamist followed by some great eats, and the local farmer’s pizza at the Stony Creek Market.

Valerie Solli CORE This summer, I’d love to try paddle-boarding on the ocean with my dog.   My dream is to paddle out to Double Beach in Branford.  My Mom was in hospice there last summer and I spent the whole summer with her looking at the beautiful beach there and watching people picnic on the little island.  This summer I wish I could go there myself to enjoy it and reflect on memories of my mother and our mutual love for the ocean and beach.
