Two Paintball Assaults

A message from Chief Ronnell A. Higgins

To the Yale Community,

I write to let you know that three students were assaulted this morning in two separate incidents involving paintball guns. The first incident occurred at approximately 0249 hrs. in the area of Library Walk on York between Elm and Chapel Streets. A white car pulled alongside the student, and the front passenger fired a paintball gun, striking the student in the torso. The vehicle fled on York toward Broadway. The second incident occurred on Broadway and Tower Parkway at approximately 0258 hrs. Two graduate students crossing Broadway and Tower Parkway were struck by paintballs as they crossed the street. Two vehicles were possibly involved in this incident, a white car and a dark SUV. The students were struck in the ear, arm and back. The vehicles fled on Dixwell Avenue. Although injuries were observed, the students refused medical treatment. The New Haven police are investigating. The Yale Police is working with New Haven Police to apprehend and deter attacks on campus and have increased patrols in this area.
