How does Yale define tobacco use?
Yale defines tobacco use as the use of any nicotine product, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, snuff and pipe tobacco, on average four or more times a week during the past six months.  Religious or ceremonial use of tobacco is allowed.

How did you know I use tobacco?
You self-identified as a tobacco user during your Enrollment process in Workday.  No medical records or information is used in the process.

Tobacco rates go into effect on July 1, 2016. If I complete the University Tobacco Cessation program on December 31, 2016, will I get a credit back for the tobacco user rates I’ve paid since July 1?
Yes. And, if you were hired or newly eligible after July 1, 2016, you will receive credit from that start date.

If I complete the Tobacco Cessation Program, our tobacco reasonable alternative, By December 31, 2016, but did not quit smoking. Do I have to complete the program next year?   
Yes.  If you remain a tobacco user, you will have to complete the RA/ program each year to avoid paying the tobacco user rates for that plan year.

Is it legal for Yale to charge a higher cost to Tobacco users?
