Bright Horizons Back-Up Care

This benefit is available for Yale University Faculty, Managerial and Professional staff, Postdoctoral Associates, Postdoctoral Fellows, Clerical & Technical, and Service & Maintenance employees.

Learn about the benefits available for subsidized back-up care for Yale employees, provided by Bright Horizons.

You are eligible for 10 days of subsidized back-up care through Bright Horizons for the calendar year (January 1st thru December 31st). There is no carry over of days from the prior calendar year.

Details follow:

  • In-home through Bright Horizons caregiver: $6/hour (cost to employee)
  • Bright Horizons or network center-based: $25-$30/day (cost to employee)

Register For Back-up Care

Register Online, by Phone or via the Mobile App.

To register for the first time, take the following steps:

  1. Go to the Bright Horizons registration page (Clerical & Technical and Service & Maintenance portal)
  2. Complete the registration form.
    Note: For the zip code field, use the zip code that you use for Yale benefits.
  3. Once you are in the site, look at the radio buttons under Browse Benefits for the topic you are interested in.

Back-Up Child and Adult/Elder Care

Whether you’re experiencing a breakdown in your regular childcare or have adult/elder care needs– Bright Horizons Care Advantage® is here to support. You are eligible for 10 days of subsidized back-up care through Bright Horizons for the calendar year (January 1st thru December 31st). There is no carry over of days from the prior calendar year.

The Bright Horizons Care Advantage® program provides back-up care for your children and/or adult/elder relatives when regular care arrangements fall through, and you need to get to work.

  • Urgent or planned back-up childcare
  • Adult and elder back-up care needs
  • School or regular center closings
  • You or your spouse are recovering from surgery or an illness
  • Your parent or adult loved one needs care in their home – anywhere throughout the U.S.
