Meeting Notes for Managers, March 2023

Below is a summary of university-wide news and workplace information for you to reinforce with your teams during staff meetings or via email updates:

Message from President Salovey to the Yale community
On March 27, President Salovey invited faculty, staff, students, and alumni to read about the work that has been done over the years on the university initiatives, noting that although “our plan is unfinished, every part of Yale has contributed to the remarkable progress we have made. By knowing what we have accomplished so far, we can move forward with even greater purpose and unity.”

Parking fee reinstatement - Guidance for managers
There have been several questions raised following the announcement that effective July 1, parking fees will be reinstated to the full normal rate. Managers are encouraged to direct staff to the FAQs on the It’s Your Yale parking webpages for guidance. The information below has been developed to help managers address additional questions from staff.

Is the reinstatement of the full parking rate an indication that the university will require staff to return full-time to the office?
The reinstatement of the parking rate is unrelated to the university’s flexible work model initiative. We expect the mode that people are working in today to continue - some full time on campus; some largely remote; most hybrid.

If we only come in two days per week, but are being charged the full parking rate, doesn’t this create inequities between hybrid and fully remote staff?
While some may feel that this creates an inequity, it’s important to note that different roles come with different responsibilities, expectations, and requirements. Those concerned about the reinstatement of the parking rate can consider the “Daily Debit” parking option, carpooling, public transportation, on street parking, or evaluating private parking lots as alternative options.

2023 Child Care Subsidy Program
Apply for reimbursement for the 2023 Child Care Subsidy Program, which is open to benefit-eligible faculty, managerial and professional staff, postdoctoral associates, and postdoctoral fellows with children from infant- age five. Employees can attend the next Child Care Subsidy Information Session (register per VPN) on April 10 from 3:30-4:00 p.m.

Staff Accommodations Program Change
Starting April 1, 2023, management of the Staff Accommodations Program will transfer from the Office of Institutional Equity and Accessibility (OIEA) to Human Resources. OIEA will continue to handle requests for faculty, other academic appointments, visitors, and job applicants.

No changes will be made to the intake point for staff. Requests must still be submitted through the Accommodations Intake Form. After completing the intake form, the request will route to our life, disability, and absence administrator, The Standard. Learn more.
