Paid Time Off (PTO) and Holiday Extension

May 10, 2022

To: Faculty and Staff

Dear Colleagues:

The University’s paid time off benefit is designed to provide staff time away from work to attend to personal responsibilities and balance the demands of both their professional and personal lives.

Paid Time Off

To support the use of paid time off, the University is instituting a final extension of unused M&P PTO from fiscal year 2021 and 2022, in excess of the maximum carryover. Any unused PTO that otherwise would have been lost will be reclassified as M&P PTO Max Extension and must be used through November 30, 2022, with supervisory approval. As of December 1, 2022, any unused FY21 and FY22 M&P PTO Max Extension time will expire.

Reviewing Your Time Off

Staff are asked to review Time and Absence to ensure that it reflects all paid time off taken to date, and managers should approve PTO records by the end of June.

It is important to note that M&P PTO Max Extension time is not compensable upon termination of employment, including retirement.

Holiday Extension

In addition to amending the PTO Max Extension deadline, the university is pleased to extend the July 4, 2022, holiday to include July 1, as a paid holiday. This addition only applies to 2022 and reflects the university’s commitment to ensuring that staff have the opportunity to recharge and spend time with friends and family.
