Yale University offers subsidized back-up care for eligible employees through Bright Horizons. Each calendar year (January 1–December 31), employees receive 10 back-up care days. Unused days do not carry over to the following year.

*Employees may utilize up to 5 of their 10 annual back-up care days for summer camp coverage.

Details follow:

  • In-home through Bright Horizons caregiver: $6/hour (cost to employee)
  • Bright Horizons or network center-based: $25-$30/day (cost to employee)

To register for the first time, take the following steps:

  1. Go to the Bright Horizons registration page (Clerical & Technical and Service & Maintenance portal)
  2. Complete the registration form.
    Note: For the zip code field, use the zip code that you use for Yale benefits.
  3. Once you are in the site, look at the radio buttons under Browse Benefits for the topic you are interested in.

Back-Up Child and Adult/Elder Care

Yale University offers subsidized back-up care for eligible employees through Bright Horizons. Each calendar year (January 1–December 31), employees receive 10 back-up care days. Unused days do not carry over to the following year.

Return-to-Work Care Days

Employees returning to work after the birth of a child are eligible for five days of subsidized Return-to-Work Care (back-up care), provided in addition to the standard annual limit of 10 days. Return-to-Work Care days may be used at any time during the first 18 months following the child’s birth.

Bright Horizons Care Advantage

The Bright Horizons Care Advantage® program provides back-up care for your children and/or adult/elder relatives when regular care arrangements fall through, and you need to get to work.

  • Urgent or planned back-up childcare
  • Adult and elder back-up care needs
  • School or regular center closings
  • You or your spouse are recovering from surgery or an illness
  • Your parent or adult loved one needs care in their home – anywhere throughout the U.S.

A guidance counselor must provide a broad range of support beyond academic advising to a large group of students — the national student-to-counselor ratio is 460:1. Our experts are former admissions and financial aid officers from colleges across the country who offer a far more focused perspective based on their comprehensive knowledge and experiences — and are available on a one-to-one basis.

College Coach offers an online learning environment that’s available 24/7. You can access videos and in-depth resources related to any curriculum topics presented during a live event. The Learning Center is also a great way to involve your whole family, as you can create a profile for your spouse/partner and your student so they can access it at any time.

College Coach has an open-door policy and your family members are welcome to attend live events and personalized meetings provided it does not violate your employer’s security policy for any on-site workshops. Your child can attend personalized meetings with an expert; however the content is geared to you as a parent and may include discussion of personal financial details.

Once registered, you can schedule a Personalized Counseling session online via the portal. We encourage you to set up an appointment following a webinar or workshop to get more detailed information on how the content can support your family’s unique needs.
