About Internships

An internship is a learning experience for a young adult, typically a college student, looking to work in a professional area to reflect their studies.

Internships vary by department but Yale offers internships for high school students, college students, and recent graduates of college.

By hosting an intern, managers benefit from employing enthusiastic talent to work on timely projects and workload, gain supervisory skills, and tap potential future employees. By employing an intern, you also share work ethics and have the opportunity to educate.

Each department is responsible for the funding of their intern.

A slate of prospective interns are provided to the hiring manager/departmental contact, interviews are scheduled and conducted by the department.

Interns begin interviewing and accept internships as early as mid-January. It is best to be involved in the process early. Candidates are available throughout the spring. Some internships have application deadline while others are flexible.
