NHHI, New Haven Works, and the Dixwell Q House Employment Readiness Series Recap

The New Haven Hiring Initiative concluded its third installment of the Employment Readiness Series, in collaboration with New Haven Works and the Dixwell Q House, on Monday, May 18. From September through May, the series offered 14 sessions on the first and third Mondays of each month, with more than 400 community members registered.

The series brought together internal Yale departments and external workforce development organizations to share career pathways, hiring insights, and local training opportunities. Attendees also had the opportunity to network with hiring managers and connect with valuable workforce resources.

The final session featured FAS-SEAS Information Technology, which provided an overview of IT career pathways at Yale, from hands-on support to advanced systems engineering. Featured roles included IT Support Technician 1 and 2, Technical Assistant 4, and Systems Engineer 2. Presenters included Rachel Feinmesser, Nick Wisdom, Bryant from FAS-SEAS Technology, Cynthia Welsh, and Edgar Cervantes from the Help Desk.

The session was especially meaningful because several presenters were former New Haven Promise Scholars who had interned at Yale in high school and college and later received support from the New Haven Hiring Initiative as they transitioned into careers. It was a true full-circle moment.

Attendees left encouraged by the message that the IT Help Desk can serve as a launch pad for careers in technology. The session also highlighted temporary staffing agencies, such as Apex and TEKsystems, as potential entry points into Yale University.
