The New Haven Hiring Initiative (NHHI) had an action-packed fall, strengthening connections across the city and advancing its mission of fostering community engagement and economic empowerment. With a multigenerational approach, we reached community members of all ages, participating in events that highlighted career opportunities, internships, and training programs to support personal and professional growth.

Engaging Families Through “Trunk or Treat”

This harvest season, the NHHI participated in five “Trunk or Treat” events citywide, interacting with hundreds of children and their families. Kids eagerly exchanged candy or healthy snacks for the opportunity to share their dreams for the future, inspiring us with their creative aspirations. Parents received informational swag bags with Yale Careers and NHHI resources. A heartfelt thank you goes to Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership, Inc., and the Dixwell Q House for kicking off Halloween with community spirit.

Fostering Career Exploration for Students

In collaboration with Yale’s Talent Acquisition team, the NHHI supported the Higher Heights YEP Annual College and Career Fair, connecting over 500 local students with representatives Alina Ozimek, Kalisha Fitzpatrick, and Fallon Thomas. This event served as a valuable platform for sharing insights on internships and career pathways at Yale University, sparking curiosity and motivation among future professionals.

Entering the Arts

This fall, the NHHI partnered with Yale’s School of Art to participate in the City of New Haven’s Department of Cultural Affairs’ first Creative Workforce Career Fair. At the event, NHHI representatives connected with arts-focused and adjacent career seekers, offering insights into arts and arts-adjacent career opportunities at Yale University. The exchange of information proved mutually enlightening, opening doors to new possibilities, and fostering a deeper understanding of career pathways in the creative sector.

Celebrating the New Haven Promise Internship Program

The New Haven Hiring Initiative and New Haven Promise hosted an appreciation reception to honor Yale University managers involved in the Internships @ Yale Program. The event celebrated the dedication of managers and the success of Promise alumni who have transitioned from interns to full-time Yale employees. Their inspiring testimonials reaffirm the program’s impact as we gear up for another internship season.

Monthly Employment Readiness Sessions

Throughout the fall, the NHHI welcomed over 60 community members to employment readiness sessions at the Dixwell Q House. Featuring partnerships with Yale Hospitality, the American Job Center, and Yale Medicine’s CARE Center, these sessions provided attendees with information about open career opportunities, required qualifications, application processes, and workforce development resources.
