Tell us about your current roles at Yale.
My role has changed over time, and I have been with Yale for approximately one and a half years. I currently work as a Safety Advisor Technician with EHS full time. My role includes supporting safety programs, conducting inspections, certifying fume hoods, assisting with emergency response and compliance efforts, and helping create a safe working environment across campus.
One of my favorite parts of the job is the variety of specialties I am exposed to and the continuous learning opportunities available. Every day brings something new and I enjoy expanding my knowledge and skills. The culture within EHS is collaborative. Everyone is willing to share their expertise and support one each other. I am grateful for my managers, Maren Schniederberend and Jason Small, and my coworkers Todd Treichel, Michal Narowski, Emily Bludnicki, Jennifer Carlson, and many others who have helped me along my journey. Their guidance, encouragement, and belief in me played a significant part in my professional growth.
You participated in our rotational fixed duration pathway program. What were these experiences like? How does the culture of learning and development at Yale impact you?
I was hired through the Fixed Duration Pathway Program as an Assistant Safety Advisor Technician. With this opportunity, I gained experience, developed new skills, and learned from people who genuinely wanted to see me succeed. At EHS, my mentors exposed me to a variety of training, licenses, and learning opportunities that continue to help me in my current role.
When I first started, it was a challenge to adjust from being a recent college graduate to working in a professional environment. There was a lot to learn, and sometimes it felt overwhelming. However, with the support of my managers and coworkers, I never felt like I was going through it alone. They encouraged me to ask questions, build my confidence, and made sure I felt comfortable before taking on tasks independently.
What advice do you have for other jobseekers?
My biggest advice is to stay persistent and not be afraid to ask for help. Take advantage of programs like New Haven Works and NHHI because they provide resources, guidance, and mentorship that can make a real difference in your job search.
Be open to feedback and always look for ways to improve and build relationships with mentors and coworkers. They can guide you and open doors to new opportunities. Most importantly, believe in yourself. Everyone starts somewhere. Career growth takes time, hard work, and dedication. A positive attitude can open many doors.
What is next for you?
My goal is to continue growing within EHS while expanding my technical expertise and contributing to creating a safe environment at Yale. I look forward to participating in additional training, certifications programs, and development opportunities that will help me better serve the community. In the long term, I want to encourage others who are starting their own professional journeys.
